Dear CAPA-ACAP Members,
Following consultation with the Local Organizing Committee for the 2020 CAPA-ACAP Annual Meeting that is scheduled to be hosted by McMaster U., we have reluctantly decided that the best course of action is to postpone the 2020 Annual Meeting.
The Local Organizing team has reached an agreement with the Sheraton Hamilton (our planned venue) to re-schedule our Annual Meeting to October 2021, with no penalty or additional costs incurred (by contrast, *cancelling* the 2020 Annual Meeting would have meant the Association would be subject to a substantial penalty for failing to meet room reservation commitments). Word is that the Sustainability Committee, which was struck following our 2019 Annual Meeting in Banff, is looking to organize a virtual poster session when we (hopefully) meet in Hamilton in 2021. Stay tuned for further details in the future!
This pushing back of the Hamilton Annual Meeting from 2020 to 2021 creates a sort of "knock-on" effect. The tentative schedule now is to meet in Saskatoon in 2022 and Winnipeg in 2023. Local planning to hold the 2021 Annual Meeitng in Saskatoon was still in the exploratory/preliminary phase when, given the current circumstances, the decision was reached to postpone the 2020 Annual Meeting. So, deposit monies for a venue in Saskatoon had not yet been made; a shift in planning to a 2022 timeframe should go smoothly.
As plans for 2021 (and beyond) take shape, you can bet word will get circulated!
Fall 2020 Virtual CAPA Conference Proposal --
Since the announcement of the postponement of the 48th Annual Meeting originally planned for Hamilton, Ontario in Fall 2020, we have been exploring options for holding a virtual meeting. Many CAPA-ACAP members look forward to the opportunity to share new research with colleagues and build their networks through both the scientific and social programs. Members have brought forward ideas for online symposia, the student luncheon, and reception events.
With these thoughts in mind, we are creating an organising committee to explore the possibility of hosting a Virtual CAPA-ACAP event this Fall. Interested members can contact us at the emails below to be part of the organising committee. We will keep the membership posted on our progress, both on the website and through social media.
